David Marlett
David C. Marlett is Chair of the Department of Finance, Banking and Insurance at Appalachian State University. He has also served as Director of the Brantley Risk and Insurance Center. His responsibilities include administration, teaching, research, and developing strong industry relations. David has also taught risk management and insurance courses at Nanjing University, Old Dominion University and Florida State University.
David was raised in Crystal River, located on the Gulf Coast of Central Florida. After working as a commercial lines underwriter for United States Fidelity and Guaranty in Tampa, he entered the doctoral program at Florida State University in 1993. His major area of study was risk management and insurance, with a support area in finance. David completed his doctoral dissertation on residual markets and catastrophe financing programs in 1997.
David is currently the editor for the CPCU eJournal. He has published over twenty articles in peer-reviewed journals. David was appointed by the Speaker of the North Carolina General Assembly as a member of theJoint Select Study Committee on Potential Impact of Major Hurricane on the Insurance Industry in North Carolina. He also serves as an affiliated Senior Scholar with theMercatus Center at George Mason University
