30th Anniversary Benefit

The Heartland Institute celebrated 30 years of defending free enterprise, individual liberty, and limited government with a gala event on Friday, September 12. Visit the 2014 Benefit website to learn more about the speakers, program, and venue, and to watch videos of the presentations.

This year’s anniversary benefit dinner featured keynote presentations by Michelle Malkin and former congressman Joe Walsh, and a salute to M. Stanton Evans, winner of the 2014 Heartland Liberty Prize. Nearly 500 people attended the event, which took place at The Cotillion, a beautiful banquet hall in suburban Palatine, Illinois.

Heartland began thirty years ago as a one-man shop (actually half-a-man… I worked part-time for the first six months while still attending  the University of Chicago) in donated office space with an annual budget of $27,000. Over the years we expanded our reach from Chicago and Illinois to the Midwest and then nationally. Every step of the way, we stayed true to our mission of “discovering, developing, and promoting free-market solutions to social and economic problems.”

Today, Heartland is among the best known and most influential think tanks in the country. State legislators say they use our publications more often than those of any other think tank. We are a leading voice in national and even global debates over climate change, health care policy, and school reform. With more than 5,000 donors, a staff of 31, and an annual budget of $6 million, we have the resources to actually change the world …  and we’re not afraid to try.

Plans are already underway for a 2015 anniversary benefit! Please call Gwen Carver at 312/377-4000 or reach her via email at gcarver@heartland.org to suggest speakers or to discuss reserving a table.
