Michael Hintze is a policy advisor to The Heartland Institute, and a contributor to Heartland’s blog, Somewhat Reasonable. He is the chief operating officer for a manufacturing company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the Wisconsin State Coordinator for Tea Party Patriots, Inc., a 501(c)4 organization dedicated to the core principles of fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government, and free markets.

Hintze has been a long-time advocate of a return to the principles of federalism as intended by the Founders, putting an end to judicial overreach by judges and justices who have assumed the role of legislators, and removing the federal government from intrusion into the daily lives of its citizens and eating out the substance of those who earn their daily bread.

Hintze is a passionate believer that the federal government’s addiction to a policy of spend, tax, and borrow is the greatest threat to the continued existence of a free people under a limited government the United States has faced since the end of World War II, and an existential threat to the happiness and well-being of future generations. He authored a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that places strict controls on the federal government’s spending, borrowing, and taxing powers, and provides for enforcement of its restrictions of those powers, and continues to work to get it, or a similar amendment, passed and ratified.

As a father and grandfather, he is unwilling to pass on to his posterity a country that will ask them to pay the bill for the excesses of his and preceding generations.
