August 2001 Environment & Climate News

Issue Date:
August, 2001

Release in June of a much-anticipated study of global warming by the National Academy of Sciences touched off a frenzy trumpteting the "uncontestable truth" of human-induced warming. In fact, we report in the August 2001 issue of Environment & Climate News, it is only the latest example of the "disconnect" betwen global warming science and global warming politics. Also in this issue: the California energy crisis; suckers and salmon vs. farmers; new diesel engine technologies; CAFE standards; and an interview with Jerry Taylor, director of natural resource studies for the Cato Institute (and, purely by coincidence, the brother of new E&CN Managing Editor James M. Taylor). (download PDF)
