A federal tax opinion issued on June 26 by the Internal Revenue Service is expected to encourage employers nationwide to adopt a type of consumer-driven health insurance that will give their employees greater control over medical expenditures. The ruling merits page 1 coverage in the August issue of Health Care News as does a critique of the May 29 Peter Jennings' documentary, "Bitter Medicine: Pills, Profit and the Public Health." Also in this issue: a new survey of the relative merits of the health care systems in the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the U.S.; a review of Medicare reform efforts; and a look at how the needs of military veterans are being ignored in debates over health care policy, including Medicare reform and pharmaceutial drug programs.
