The March 2007 issue of School Reform News highlights efforts across the country to attract talented professionals to the classroom, through alternative certification and similar measures. On page 1:

• On February 2, the Utah House of Representatives passed a landmark measure that would give Utah the nation's first statewide voucher program.

• In December, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in two cases that address admission programs used by public school districts to achieve integration.

• On January 9, the Arizona Supreme Court declined to hear a legal challenge to the state's newest school voucher programs--one for foster children, the other for special-needs children.

• The Colorado State Board of Education has waived state licensing requirements so the Douglas County School District can train and license its own teachers.
