Jeffrey Bell: The US dollar has lost about 95 percent of its value over the past 100 years, and many people place much of the blame on the country going off the gold standard nearly 40 years ago.

Bell, who served as an issues adviser to President Ronald Reagan, says if the country were to again tie the dollar to gold, we'd have more price stability, fewer and milder swings in economic performance, and an easier time plotting our financial futures. To that end he is serving on the executive board of Gold Standard 2012, which is trying to bring the issue to the public's attention
