Jim Lakely: Sprint/Nextel and SoftBank Merger

October 26, 2012

On October 18, Jim Lakely, co-director of the Center on the Digital Economy at The Heartland Institute, was a guest on KCUR-FM, the NPR station in Kansas City, Missouri. Lakely was on to talk about the merger between Sprint/Nextel and SoftBank, one of the largest wireless carriers in Japan. Lakely offered a free-market perspective, saying the merger would not have happened if both companies didn't feel it was necessary to better serve customers. And, in what was probably not well received by listeners in Sprint's hometown of Kansas City, the market may one day decide that we don't need Sprint at all.
