Sarah Curry: Dangerous Precedent In Occupancy Tax Request

Haywood County, N.C., is symptomatic of something counties and localities around the country have been doing: imposing taxes on tourists in the often misguided belief they can do so without harming tourism or existing businesses. In Haywood County's case, the use of additional tax dollars from a requested 50 percent increase in its occupancy tax rate would set a bad precedent that could spread to other locations, says Sarah Curry of the John Locke Foundation.
