Brian Backstrom: New Report Grades State Tax-Credit Scholarships
Of the 14 states that have tax-credit scholarship school choice, only two receive an A grade from the Center for Education Reform's new report. Credit-funded scholarships help kids attend private schools using tax-deductible private donations from businesses and individuals. Report author Brian Backstrom joins the podcast to discuss his analysis, why tax-credit scholarships are the most popular form of private school choice, and the top three ways states can improve their school choice laws. He also counters two criticisms of the scholarships: That they don't offer enough choice to enough families fast enough, and that their scholarship amounts aren't big enough to jump-start new, innovative schools.
