Better Schools: The Education Legacy of Governor Jeb Bush

Education is consistently identified as one of the most important issues to Floridians. It should be. A well-educated citizenry is the foundation of self-suffi cient families, healthy communities, and a dynamic economy.

Education was also, by far, the most important
policy issue to former Gov. Jeb Bush. In 1998,
then-candidate Bush campaigned on a plan to
transform Florida’s public schools so that every
student gained a year’s worth of knowledge in a
year’s time. Once elected, he systematically turned his political platform into a reality.
