The Cost of Mental Health Parity in Oklahoma

Robert J. Franciosi, Ph.D –
March 1, 1999

This article addresses the need for mental health care reform mandating insurance companies to include mental health in their coverage. Author Robert Franciosi writes;

Over the past several years there has been a push at the state and national level for legislative mandates requiring insurance companies to give mental illness coverage equivalent to that for physical illness so-called mental health parity.  Already 25 states have passed laws pertaining to mental health parity.  Beginning in 1998 the federal government started requiring parity in annual and lifetime spending caps.
