Gore High School Built on Contaminated Science, Contaminated Soil
Los Angeles is naming an environmental high school high school after Al Gore. Fittingly, the high school is being built on contaminated soil.
The Carson-Gore Academy of Environmental Sciences, named after Gore and Rachel Carson, is due to open on September 13. Rachel Carson’s 1962 book Silent Spring defined emotional exaggeration in the name of science before passing the torch to Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth. Carson’s book led to the needless banning of the phenomenally successful insecticide DDT. DDT had virtually eradicated malaria in most of the world, but malaria has come back with a vengeance and killed untold millions of people since Silent Spring induced a near global ban of the insecticide. Carson’s Silent Spring claims, much like Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth claims, were decimated by sound science but prevailed in the court of government bureaucracy.
Environmental activists claim the Carson-Gore Academy of Environmental Sciences is being built on “terribly contaminated” soil. So, too, is the Carson-Gore underlying science.
