HIV Testing and Reporting Act

December 14, 2000

In this model and sample bill, the purpose of it is as follows:

The purpose of this bill is to make testing for the HIV virus safe and confidential. Specifically, only physicians, hospitals, laboratories authorized by the state Department of Health, and other persons authorized by the state Department of Health may conduct HIV testing. Also, all test results must remain confidential. This act will encourage more people to get tested, which will in turn help prevent the spread of the HIV virus and allow individuals infected with the virus to receive speedy and proper medical care.
