Howard Dean: Kill The Health Care Bill

In another sign that by gaining the support of Joe Lieberman, Senate Democrat leadership may have lost their left flank, Howard Dean - the former Vermont Governor, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, and a physician by training - has come out strongly against the newly moderated Senate version of health care reform.

On ABC's Good Morning America this morning, Dean said that without a public option or a Medicare buy-in, the current health care legislation is "a bigger bailout for the insurance industry than AIG."

In his view, as Dean told Vermont Public Radio:

“This is essentially the collapse of health care reform in the United States Senate. Honestly the best thing to do right now is kill the Senate bill, go back to the House, start the reconciliation process, where you only need 51 votes and it would be a much simpler bill.”
