Impaired Judgment: The Failure of Control States to Reduce Alcohol-Related Problems
Professor Donald J. Boudreaux of George Mason University has studied the 18 states that hold monopoly power to sell alcohol and compared them to the rest of the states that allow private businesses to sell alcohol. His study, "Impaired Judgment: The Failure of Control States to Reduce Alcohol-Related Problems," concludes there is virtually no difference between the 18 "control" states and the remaining "license" states regarding alcohol-related deaths.
He also concludes there is no statistically meaningful difference between control states and license states when it comes to binge drinking among minors or young adults.
