NIPCC IR1 - Chapter 4 - Cryosphere, Ocean Dynamics, and Hydrology

August 29, 2011

Chapter 4 reports the latest observations on changes in the cryosphere, oceans, precipitation, and rivers and streamflow, comparing those observations to projections made by the IPCC. The new research finds less melting of ice in the Arctic, Antarctic, and on mountaintops than previously feared, no sign of acceleration of sea-level rise in recent decades, no trend over the past 50 years in changes to the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (MOC), and no changes in precipitation patterns or river flows that could be attributed to rising CO2 levels.
