No. 17 - Tenant Control Of Public Housing: New Hope For Cabrini-Green

Craig Fisher –
October 8, 1987

Chicago's Cabrini-Green is "probably the most notorious public housing project in the nation." The racial riots of the 1960s triggered Cabrini-Green's notoriety; in 1970, two Chicago policemen were killed by a Cabrini-Green sniper; and in 1981, then-Mayor Jane Byrne's move into a fourth floor Cabrini-Green apartment-- her response to a series of gang shootings-- made network news.
