Ozone Transport Assessment Group: Implications for State Legislatures

An adult breathes in approximately 13,000 liters of air each day.  Childeren breathe in 50 percent more air per pound of body weight than do adults.  Ground-level ozone - a prime ingredient of smog - can cause shortness of breath and chest pains in asthmatics, hurt to children, and induce permanent lung damage and chronic respiratory illness in everyone.
