Safety program planning can build on recent successes in developing pharmacy fail-safe programs, new care guidelines, disease management programs, and patient care performance improvement strategies. As demonstrated here, some of the safety research is soft science, but medicine is an art, and development of safety systems in patient care can still proceed.
