Record Global Snow Extent in 2001-2010

James M. Taylor –

This past decade set a record for largest average global snow extent, according to the Rutgers University Global Snow Lab, slightly exceeding the prior records set in the 1960s and 1970s. The new snow record is an embarrassing blow to global warming alarmists who have gone on record claiming global warming is causing a decline in winter snow.

Prominent global warming alarmist Joe Romm, who works under renewable power lobbyist John Podesta at the Center for American Progress, wrote in September 2008:

“In Virginia, the weather also has changed dramatically. Recently arrived residents in the northern suburbs, accustomed to today's anemic winters, might find it astonishing to learn that there were once ski runs on Ballantrae Hill in McLean, with a rope tow and local ski club. Snow is so scarce today that most Virginia children probably don't own a sled.”

Earlier this month, however, Romm’s tune changed:

"Ideologues in the Senate keep pushing the anti-scientific disinformation that big snowstorms are evidence against human-caused global warming,” said Romm.

And, for good measure, Romm added, "The snow we've seen is entirely consistent with global warming theory."

So, let’s see if we can get this straight. When there is a perceived lack of snow, this is evidence of global warming. And when the perceived lack of snow ends and there is then a heck of a lot of snow, this, too, is evidence of global warming. Is there anything in this world the alarmists would say is NOT evidence of global warming?

This is not science, this is disturbing cult behavior. Science entails theses for which a prediction is made and real-world observations support the thesis or prove it false. Global warming alarmists allow for no such falsifiable theories – anything and everything that ever could happen is claimed to prove the theory correct, even when these events contradict earlier predictions. Who invented this theory, Jim Jones… David Koresh?
