Vinyl Medical Products and Incineration: Allegations and Facts

For more than 50 years, health care providers have relied on vinyl medical products to help prevent infection and save lives.  As the leading medical plastic in use today, vinyl is the primary component in 25 percent of all medical products, including IV and blood bags, dialysis tubing, surgical gloves and sterile packaging.  Recently, a number of allegations driven by the environment activist group Greenpeace have linked the disposal of these products through incineration with levels of dioxin in the environment.
