(CHICAGO, Illinois - November 14, 2007) On Thursday, November 15, three medical experts will testify on the dangers of junk science at a hearing before the Human Health Risk Assessment (HHRA) Subcommittee, a federal advisory committee to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Research and Development.
The hearing will take place at the Residence Inn Bethesda-Downtown in Bethesda, Maryland. The junk science experts, who will testify between 11:15 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., are available for media interviews before and after their testimony.
Testifying before the HHRA will be:
- John Dale Dunn, M.D., J.D., a medical officer at the Brown County Sheriff's office, civilian physician at Darnall Army Medical Center, Fort Hood, Texas, and member of the Board of Policy Advisors of The Heartland Institute.
- S. Stanley Young, Ph.D., assistant director of bioinformatics at the National Institute of Statistical Sciences and a fellow of the American Statistical Association.
- James E. Enstrom, Ph.D., M.P.H., associate research professor at the School of Public Health, University of California, Los Angeles.
The experts will testify that EPA has allowed "junk science" about health effects to permeate its work and the national debate over public health regulations. The consequences are catastrophic: Enormous public and private expenditures are being mandated to chase tiny and hypothetical health risks. This not only wastes resources but diverts public attention from true health problems.
Dunn, Young, and Enstrom can be reached for media interviews at Dr. Dunn's cell phone at 325/642-5073. Copies of their testimony and background materials are available online:
