Wigged Out

Published June 4, 2013

Finally, here’s a lawsuit with some potential merit but a headline just too delicious to pass up: “Sandra Lupo, Former Hooters Employee, Forced to Quit After Brain Surgery, Lawsuit Alleges.”

As reported in The Huffington Post, former St. Peters, Missouri Hooters waitress Sandra Lupo had to shave her head in July 2012 in order to undergo a craniotomy to remove a mass from her brain. After preparing to return to work, Ms. Lupo initially complied with her regional manager’s directive to wear a wig but found the wig irritated her head wound.

After having her hours cut as a result of showing up for work wigless, Ms. Lupo felt forced to quit and is currently suing the franchise in federal court for violating the Missouri Human Rights Act. Hooters spokesman Scott Yates denies the allegations and says Hooters “believes the lawsuit is without foundation.”
