House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) claims she saw first-hand evidence of global warming in Greenland (May 28). She must have brought a pretty powerful microscope with her.
Science magazine reported in November 2005 that Greenland was losing just 0.004 percent of its ice mass per year. At that pace, even 200 years from now Greenland would still have more than 99 percent of its ice sheet intact.
Pelosi must have brought a new time machine with her, as well. A February 2007 article in Science magazine noted that the ice loss reported in the November 2005 issue lasted less than two years and has now stopped. Prior to this, the Journal of Glaciology reported in 2005, “the Greenland ice sheet is thinning at the margins and growing inland, with a small overall mass gain.”
Somebody please ask Pelosi to gather scientific evidence, rather than subjective observations, during her future taxpayer-funded junkets.
