According to a 2005 joint annual report from the Bureau of Justice Statistics and the National Center for Education Statistics, violent crime in schools declined from 48 violent victimizations per 1,000 students in 1992 to 28 in 2003.
Another 2005 report–this one from the National Association of School Resource Officers–suggests weapons remain a serious school issue. More than 78 percent of respondents reported taking a weapon away from a student on campus in 2004.
