Syun-Ichi Akasofu

Founding Director, International Arctic Research Center

As director of the Geophysical Institute (1986-1999), Dr. Akasofu concentrated his effort on establishing the institute as a key research center in the Arctic. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1961.
