The 65 Project Targets Trump Lawyers

Published July 18, 2023

The 65 Project was launched in March of 2022 “to punish lawyers who supported President Trump and to dissuade future attempts to overturn elections on illegitimate grounds.” “The name ’65 Project’ refers to the number of lawsuits filed by supporters of President Donald Trump to overturn the 2020 presidential election.” Its mission was “to punish lawyers who supported President Trump and to dissuade future attempts to overturn elections on illegitimate grounds.”

“According to The 65 Project, then-President Trump and a group of lawyers attempted to steal the 2020 presidential election by filing dozens of false lawsuits to disrupt the electoral process and permit Trump or his sympathizers to use their power to overturn the election results.”

“The 65 Project refers to these lawyers as the “army of Big Lie Lawyers,” a reference to the concept of a lie so ostentatious that people doubt it could be credibly fabricated, a principle credited to Second World War-era Nazi propaganda.”

David Brock and Project 67

As reported by Joel B. Pollak on March 7, 2022, it was Left-wing ideologue David Brock who launched the “dark money” effort to disbar, publicly shame, and impoverish more than 100 lawyers who participated in filing post-election legal challenges to the 2020 presidential election results

Brock told Axios in an interview that the idea is to “not only bring the grievances in the bar complaints but shame them and make them toxic in their communities and in their firms.” Brock also made no attempt to hide the fact that he is trying to deprive his targets of their ability to earn a living.

Alan Dershowitz calls out the 65 Project

Alan Dershowitz, Constitutional expert and Harvard Law Professor Emeritus, wrote the following newsletter dated June 15, 2023, Why Donald Trump Can’t Get A Top Tier Lawyer.

As Dershowitz cited in his newsletter:

“There is a nefarious group that calls itself The 65 Project that has as its goal to intimidate lawyers into not representing Trump or anyone associated with him.”

“They have threatened to file bar charges against any such lawyers. When these threats first emerged, I wrote an op-ed offering to defend pro bono any lawyers that The 65 Project goes after. So The 65 Project immediately went after me, and contrived a charge based on a case in which I was a constitutional consultant, but designed to send a message to potential Trump lawyers: if you defend Trump or anyone associated with him, we will target you and find something to charge you with. The lawyers to whom I spoke are fully aware of this threat — and they are taking it seriously.”

“Good lawyers, however, generally welcome challenges, especially in high-profile cases. This case is different: The threats to the lawyers are greater than at any time since McCarthyism. Nor is the comparison to McCarthyism a stretch.”

Charlie Kirk features Dershowitz on his show

On June 13, 2023 Alan Dershowitz appeared on Charlie Kirk’s show.  As Kirk wrote on his Twitter feed

“Professor Alan Dershowitz told me today on my show that he’s received many calls from lawyers saying they wouldn’t dare defend President Trump because of threats from this group. How is this legal?”

“The 65 Project is funded by Law Works, a group with no website and no public financial disclosures. This is an anti-American, anti-constitutional far-left assault not only on President Trump, but on the right of ALL Americans to make their case in court.”

Conclusions

What we are witnessing is a struggle for the very survival of our American Republic.  Equal application of the law was at least once an ideal however imperfectly it was practiced.

Despite overwhelming evidence that incriminates Biden and other family members in what is a transparent and corrupt pay-for-play scheme with Communist China, also Ukraine and Romania, Biden’s Department of Justice continue to insist that there is nothing to see here.

In tandem, a legal campaign has been unleashed against former President Trump.  The objective is to put Trump in prison for the rest of his life and to ban him from ever becoming president again.

Doesn’t the Constitution guarantee the right to have legal counsel to mount a defense?  But Trump? How many times do we see murderers and rapists get attorneys because “they’re entitled to a defense”?

But there is some good news for Donald Trump:

Only 37% of Americans have a favorable view of FBI Director Wray

Experts warn that Donald Trump’s criminal charges will only make him stronger.
