Initiative 912 was one of five initiatives on the Washington ballot on election day. Two initiatives passed–one to require performance audits of government-funded programs, and one to restrict indoor smoking.
The other two initiatives concerned health care. One would have reformed medical malpractice insurance and the other would have further regulated health insurance programs. Both measures received fewer votes than did I-912.
According the National Conference of State Legislatures, 18 citizen-sponsored statewide initiatives were on ballots in various states in fall 2005. The only ones that passed were the two in Washington.
