The level at which taxpayers in the United Stes fund public education is the subject of intense debate. State ans local taxpayers are being promised better public school in exchange for their approval of tax increases. Lawsuits have been filed or are pending in serveral states, including Illinois, demanding that funding be “equalized” across districts by increasing the state’s share of education spending. Communites compare themselves to others states, and nations compare themselves to other nations.
