Amanda Maxham

Policy Advisor, The Heartland Institute

Amanda Maxham, Ph.D., is a science writer with a background in high energy astrophysics. She creates podcasts and writes about science and industrialization, with a focus on biotechnology. She defends mankind’s moral right to use technology and supports the industrial capitalism that makes it possible. Amanda’s views offer a rational and exciting alternative to environmentalism.

She contributes regularly in a wide variety of public and industry forums on science-based policy issues such as genetically modified organisms (GMOs), DDT and pesticides, climate change and energy.

Maxham holds a Ph.D. in astrophysics from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), and her scientific work on gamma-ray burst astronomy has appeared in international science journals such as The Astrophysical Journal and The Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.

She was a visiting assistant professor of physics and astronomy at UNLV, where she founded and directed the university’s high-altitude weather balloon research program. Dr. Maxham was also a research associate and junior fellow at the Ayn Rand Institute.
