The December 2009 issue of School Reform News reports a task force has been named by the Arizona legislature to investigate whether scholarship-granting organizations are playing by the rules or gaming the system. Also in this issue:

* Milwaukee’s public schools may be facing a mayoral takeover, if the governor and local leaders get their way. * A new poll shows most Nebraska parents want more school choice for their children.

* The first tuition-free, online university admitted its inaugural class this September, perhaps setting a precedent for higher education worldwide.

*Kindergartners at a popular Harlem charter school had a tough time getting to class recently when a crowd of adults—including union officials, teachers, and parents of kids in the public school the charter shares facilities with—blocked the entrance to protest the charter’s desks and equipment.
