On Wednesday, January 14, Heartland President Joseph L. Bast and Board Chairman Herb Walberg will be Dr. Milt Rosenberg’s guests on Extension 720, one of the nation’s most popular talk radio shows.

The live program will air from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. on WGN radio, 720 AM. You can also listen online at http://www.wgnradio.com (click on the Listen Now link). One hour of the program is reserved for call-ins.

Listeners from 38 states–and from around the world via the Internet– tune in to the program. Rosenberg, a professor of psychology at the University of Chicago, has hosted the show since 1973. Both Bast and Walberg have been guests in the past.

Bast and Walberg will discuss their new book, Education and Capitalism: How Overcoming Our Fear of Markets and Economics Can Improve America’s Schools, released in November 2003 by Hoover Institution Press.

Nobel laureate Milton Friedman called the book “a thoughtful, thorough examination of the virtues of capitalism and free markets as a way to organize elementary and secondary education in a democracy.” Bruno V. Manno, with the Annie E. Casey Foundation, deemed it “a first rate book on improving America’s schools that challenges the popular fallacies, misunderstandings, and romantic notions that many have about capitalism and economics and that makes the case for market-based school reforms.”

Education and Capitalism (416 pages, paperback) can be ordered for $15.00 plus shipping and handling from The Heartland Institute’s online store at http://www.heartland.org.
