The Institute for International Research (IIR) has announced Newt Gingrich, founder of the Center for Health Transformation, will keynote its Medicare Financing and Product Development Congress being held December 8-10, 2003 at the Loews L’Enfant Plaza in Washington, DC.
Gingrich will discuss “creating a twenty-first century Medicare system”–a system he says will produce higher quality care at a lower cost by featuring increased consumer choice.
Other speakers scheduled for the event include Daniel Crippen, former director of the Congressional Budget Office; Richard Bringewatt, president and CEO of the National Chronic Care Consortium; Dr. Dana Gelb Safran, director of the Health Institute at Tufts-New England Medical Center’s Division of Clinical Care; and Dr. Joseph Newhouse, the John D. MacArthur Professor of Health Policy and Management at Harvard University.
Dr. Murray Ross, director of health policy analysis and research for the Kaiser Permanente Institute for Health Policy and former executive director of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, will chair the event.
The three-day event, aimed at Medicare payers and health care providers, will offer case studies and panel discussions with industry leaders. The promoters say it’s a must-attend event for health insurance carriers, who will get “the tools they need to implement strategies to improve their market share and increase profitability of their Medicare business units.”
The program will address industry-wide concerns, including the impact of an outpatient drug benefit, the emerging role of pharmacy benefit managers, and revenue generation in the private supplement and Medicare select insurance market. Conrad F. Meier, managing editor of Health Care News and senior fellow in health policy for The Heartland Institute, will moderate a panel discussion on the Medicare drug benefit.
Two luncheons and an evening cocktail reception will give the event’s speakers and attendees extensive networking opportunities.
