Does a consensus among the world’s climate scientists exist on the extent of global warming and how serious the threat might be?
During his 60 Minutes television interview Sunday (March 30), former Vice President Al Gore asserted that nearly all the world’s scientists are calling for immediate and urgent action on global warming.
James M. Taylor, senior fellow for environmental policy at The Heartland Institute, says Gore is playing fast and loose with the truth.
“In the most authoritative global survey of climate experts, scientists at Germany’s Institute of Coastal Research surveyed more than 500 of the world’s leading climate scientists on issues related to global warming. In response to the assertion, ‘Natural scientists have established enough physical evidence to turn the issue of global climate change over to social scientists for matters of policy discussion,’ less than half of the world’s leading climate scientists agreed.”
