Illinois Politicians Clueless on Electricity

Published November 3, 2006

Dear Editor:

I’m confused. Just a few weeks ago Illinois elected officials were pretending to care about the burden of high energy costs. They spent lots of time and energy grandstanding over ComEd’s request to raise electric rates.

But now those same politicians are going to approve new regulations on the state’s coal industry [“Plan seeks 90 percent cut in mercury by 2009,” Nov. 3] that will necessarily result in even higher electric rates.

Are they hypocrites … or just not paying attention?

Sincerely,
