Dear Editor:
Regarding the Democrats’ proposal to “negotiate” lower prices for prescription drugs [“Administration opposes plan to negotiate Medicare drug prices,” Nov. 13], since Medicare is the biggest single purchaser of prescription drugs, won’t a “discount” for the government mean the rest of us who are paying full price will have to pay even more?
We have a market system that determines prices for drugs. When we start messing with it–even when the cause is noble–we just end up creating inefficiencies and price distortions that hurt the overall economy.
