Men Not Working

Published December 13, 2012

An Ohio community college forced a construction crew to stop working until its “Men Working” signs were removed because they violated the college’s diversity requirements.

A Sinclair Community College administrator complained the sign was “sexist and non-inclusive.” Facing a shutdown on the job, the crew removed it.

The college takes its policy “quite seriously” and has a “deep commitment to diversity.” The college policy states: “The concept of diversity at Sinclair Community College encompasses the acceptance, inclusiveness, engagement, and mutual respect among students, faculty, staff, administrators, and members of the broader community.”

The question no one was asking? Whether any women were on the job. If not, the sign was simply a statement of fact.
