New Coalition Launches Booker T. Washington Celebration Web Site

(Chicago, Illinois – March 30, 2006) On Thursday, The New Coalition for Economic and Social Change announced the launch of its official Booker T. Washington Celebration Web site.

“This Web site will allow everyone interested in celebrating the life and message of Booker T. Washington, in the city of Chicago and across the nation, to access a complete guide to our symposium,” commented Lee Walker, president of The New Coalition.

The new Web site’s URL is http://www.newcoalition.org/BTW2006/welcome.cfm. The site also can be found linked on The New Coalition’s home page, http://www.newcoalition.org.

The celebration marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Booker T. Washington. The event will take place June 4-6, 2006 at various locations throughout the City of Chicago.

The new Web site includes biographies of the 17 academics and community leaders currently scheduled to participate in panel discussions on Monday, June 5 and Tuesday, June 6. The panel discussions will be held at the Thorne Auditorium on Northwestern University’s downtown Chicago campus and will include:

The Booker T. Washington Web site also provides information about paid meal events at great Chicago locations, featuring keynote addresses from prominent speakers. The opening dinner, on Sunday, June 4, will take place at the Chicago Athletic Club, as will breakfasts on Monday and Tuesday morning. Lunches will take place at the Union League Club (Monday) and Metropolitan Club (Tuesday), while dinners will be hosted by the DuSable Museum of African American History on Monday night and on the Spirit of Chicago cruising Lake Michigan on Tuesday.

The New Coalition for Economic and Social Change is a national nonprofit organization based in Chicago devoted to advancing conservative multiculturalism, a way of looking at the social order that leads to conservative or libertarian conclusions, but that is filtered and changed by experiences both historic and personal that are not shared by whites.
