NFIB, Fortis Team Up for Affordable Insurance

Published August 1, 2001

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) and Fortis Health have teamed up to make affordable health insurance plans available to 600,000 NFIB member businesses throughout the U.S.

The partnership will offer plans designed for small-business owners and their employees, as well as for individuals. NFIB members can choose small group and individual health insurance plans, as well as Medical Savings Accounts (MSAs), short-term medical insurance, and ancillary products like vision, dental, and prescription coverage.

NFIB members will work with specially appointed Fortis Health agents, who will perform the role of health care consultants with special training in the challenges small businesses face. Members can compare insurance premium rates among competitors, change providers, or purchase health insurance for the first time.

In a news release announcing the partnership, Ben Cutler, president and chief executive officer of Fortis Health, noted, “This union is a perfect match and a wonderful opportunity, because both partners possess a vast amount of experience meeting the needs of small businesses. It is through the combination of this expertise that we can provide members with the types of insurance products that are most beneficial to them.”

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is the nation’s largest small-business advocacy group. A nonprofit, nonpartisan organization founded in 1943, NFIB represents the consensus views of its 600,000 members located in every state.

According to Best’s Review, Fortis Health is the country’s leading provider of individual medical, small group, and short-term health insurance as well as Medical Savings Accounts and defined contribution products. The company provides health insurance coverage for over one million people nationwide and has more policies in force than any other insurer in the country. Fortis is headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and has operations offices in Minnesota, Idaho, Texas, Florida, and Ohio.
