Sprint’s ParentLink™ Suite is in daily use in Unified School District 469 in Lansing, Kansas. Lansing children or their parents access ParentLink™ voice mail boxes an average of 1.6 times a day to obtain information on school activities and homework assignments, or to leave messages with a teacher or staff member.
“The phone is part of everyone’s life,” said Jeff Andrews, Lansing’s technology coordinator. “It’s an easy, accessible way for parents to get involved in their children’s lives at school,” he added, noting that parents or students make from 200 to 800 calls a day into the system.
The ParentLink™ package consists of a PC_based interactive voice response unit that works with a school’s phone system and the administrative computer network, according to Mark Uhart, education market manager for Sprint. Uhart said ParentLink™ is a cost_effective solution for a wide range of schools. Depending on the system size and desired applications, the package costs from $15,000 to $35,000.
