SCHIP Forgot About the Children

Published July 16, 2007

Mary Schmuck’s “No excuse for children without health care” (July 8) misrepresents the success of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). From 1997 until 2005, the percentage of impoverished children in the United States with health insurance has actually declined. SCHIP programs across the country have been hijacked to insure both adults and middle-class families. SCHIP needs to refocus on the children.
