Telling John McCain To Go Home: For The Children

Published August 20, 2008

U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ), former prisoner, should consider the logistics involved in reviving tax-supported school scholarships for 500 special-needs students in Arizona.

In the legislature, a Republican Speaker of the House is fighting a Democratic governor and attempting to identify $5 million available to continue two limited special-needs voucher programs for foster children and desperately needy students (“Help These Kids,” August 8).

Senator McCain already knows what it’s like to be a “captive” of a process that numbs the mind and denies access to a brighter economic future. Some “straight talk” across partisan lines will help ensure that the speaker, governor, and their legislative colleagues support these limited targeted voucher programs. Someone tell Senator McCain: charity begins at home.
