The Detroit Partnership for Parental Choice

Published April 1, 1998

The Detroit Partnership for Parental Choice hosted the January 31 “Choosing Our Future” conference at Detroit’s Cobo Hall. Cutting across racial, party, and religious lines, the partnership is comprised of three groups:

  • a coalition of Detroit religious leaders who believe that parental choice is key to reforming public schools;
  • the TEACH Michigan Education Fund, a Lansing-based nonprofit group that promotes parental choice in education; and
  • R3, a Detroit-based nonprofit neighborhood revitalization group.

Detroit clergy who addressed the conference included Rev. Edgar Vann, president of Detroit’s Council of Baptist Pastors; Bishop P.A. Brooks, general secretary for the National Church of God in Christ; Rev. Larry Simmons, Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church; and Rabbi E.B. Freedman, Jewish Coalition for Parental Choice.
