Firms Expand Online Libraries
Bigchalk.com, an e-learning services provider for the K-12 market, in January announced the addition of Bigchalk Library to its suite of services. The new research tool allows students and teachers to perform online searches that will search for materials appropriate for specific reading levels. The company also announced an agreement with OnlineLearning.net to provide professional development courses for educators.
Also in January, Blackboard, Inc. announced a partnership with NetLibrary, a provider of e-books and Internet-based content management services. Under the terms of the agreement, NetLibrary will offer its MetaText digital textbooks through the Blackboard 5 e-learning software platform.
Improving Student Achievement
SmarterKids.com, an online provider of educational toys, and Homeroom.com, Princeton Review’s Web-based educational site designed to improve academic performance, in February announced a partnership. SmarterKids.com will provide access to skill-specific products aligned to Homeroom.com’s standards-specific database. The alliance will allow SmarterKids.com access to Homeroom.com’s community of people seeking to improve student achievement.
