U.S. House Speaker Hastert Will Join Business Leaders On June 21st To Review Latest Data On Success Of Health Savings Accounts

Published June 14, 2004

What: Six months after Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) were enacted into law, Assurant Health, in partnership with the National Federation of Independent Business/Illinois and the Illinois State Chamber of Commerce, will host a briefing for business leaders to announce new data on the success and impact of HSAs.

Who: The Honorable J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) – Speaker of the United States House of Representatives
Don Hamm, President and Chief Executive Officer – Assurant Health
Kim Maisch, Illinois State Director – National Federation of Independent Business
Douglas Whitley, President and Chief Executive Officer – The Illinois State Chamber of Commerce

Why: HSAs, the newest concept in the health insurance market, are making health insurance more affordable by allowing consumers to save money in a tax-free account to pay for health care costs. HSAs were approved by Congress as part of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Implementation & Modernization Act in December 2003, and have not only increased health insurance options, but have also helped consumers control their own health care financing. Assurant Health provided the first HSA in the country to a customer in Illinois.

This mid-year check up will provide updates on:

  • Who is buying HSAs?
  • Why are they buying HSAs?
  • What do HSAs mean for the future of health care in America?

When: Monday, June 21, 2004 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Where: Palmer House Hilton, Empire Room, 17 East Monroe Street, Chicago, IL
