Verizon has rescinded a $2 “convenience fee”—scheduled to take effect January 15, 2012—for wireless customers who choose to pay their bills by phones or online.
The decision resulted from consumer complaints and a petition started on Change.org.
The FCC is also currently looking into the matter.
“Verizon’s proposed fee was designed to encourage people to sign up for the auto-pay feature that will reduce Verizon’s billing costs and improve on-time cash flow,” said Devon Herrick, a senior fellow of the National Center for Policy Analysis.
“I don’t see why the FCC is investigating the practice,” he added. “This is a matter between Verizon and its customers.”
