Center for American Progress Blames Arab Spring on Global Warming

Published February 25, 2013

As our modest global warming returns the Earth to temperatures that prevailed prior to the Little Ice Age, global and regional benefits include shrinking deserts, greater soil moisture, and increased crop production. Nevertheless, global warming alarmists continue to tell the lie that global warming is having an opposite effect than is shown in the scientific record. The Center for American Progress appears poised to expand upon such lies in a media event this Thursday.

The Center for American Progress is hosting a Feb. 28 event titled “Climate Change and the Arab Spring.” The event “outlines the complex pressures exerted by the effects of climate change on the convulsions which swept through the Middle East in 2010 and 2011, exploring the long-term trends in precipitation, agriculture, food prices, and migration which contributed to the social instability and violence which has transformed the region, and offering solutions for progress.”

The problem with the Center for American Progress propaganda is science tells a completely opposite story. Northern Africa has been the epicenter of the Arab Spring, and scientific data show the climate in Northern Africa and elsewhere is becoming more conducive to crop production and human welfare as the planet warms. As I documented in a pair of Forbes articles in late 2012 (available here and here) deserts are shrinking, plant life is becoming more abundant, soil moisture is improving, and crop production is increasing in Africa just as it is throughout the planet.

It may be politically convenient to blame global warming for the Obama administration’s failed foreign policy, but the facts tell us an entirely different story.
