Climate Reality Project vs. Heartland: Debate Video Posted

Climate Change Weekly #76

Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project squared off against The Heartland Institute in a global warming debate January 8 in Tallahassee, Florida. More than 260 people attended the hour-long debate, which resulted in standing room only at the Tallahassee Elks Club Lodge, which hosted the event. Video footage of the debate is now posted on the Internet.

Ray Bellamy, a Florida State University faculty member who works with Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project, argued humans are causing a global warming crisis. Heartland Senior Fellow James M. Taylor countered that global warming activists have proven none of four important factors they need to show in order to demonstrate a human-induced global warming crisis.

“I am very happy that this debate is now available on the Internet so people can see for themselves, without having to wade through media filters, who possesses and presents the best evidence in a fair and balanced debate,” said Taylor.

“I encourage people to watch the debate and then share it with friends, family, and acquaintances. So long as people have access to the truth, I believe the truth will always prevail,” said Taylor.

NOAA CAUGHT USING CONTRADICTORY DATA SETS

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration appears to be using two contradictory datasets for its official temperature records, meteorologist Anthony Watts reports. The contradictory data cast doubt on NOAA’s assertion that 2012 was a year of record warmth in the United States.

‘SECRET SANTA’ LEAK EXPOSES FLAWS IN UPCOMING IPCC REPORT

Investigative journalist Donna Laframboise published extensive text from the upcoming United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fifth Assessment Report, which was leaked to Laframboise by an IPCC insider. The leaked documents show IPCC learned nothing from prior embarrassments in which IPCC recruited environmental activists to produce the reports and relied extensively on papers that were not subjected to peer review. Leaked to Laframboise just before Christmas, the leaked documents are dubbed the “Secret Santa” leak.

NASA REPORTS SOLAR VARIANCE HAS SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON CLIMATE

A new report issued by the National Research Council and co-authored by NASA scientists shows there are “surprisingly complex ways” that solar activity can affect the Earth’s climate. “Even typical short term variations of 0.1% in incident irradiance” have a significant impact on the Earth, the scientists report.

MET OFFICE REPORTS 20-YEAR PLATEAU IN GLOBAL TEMPERATURES

Global warming is stalled on a 20-year plateau, according to climate researchers at the UK’s Met Office. “The experts have admitted temperatures are not rising as fast as they expected and they have to figure out why,” explains the UK Sun in an article on the topic.

ALARMISTS DOCTOR DATA TO CLAIM RECORD US WARMTH IN 2012

Claims that 2012 was the warmest year in United States history are undercut by evidence that government employees recently altered the temperature data from the 1930s, which reveal warmer temperatures during the 1930s than in 2012.
