New data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration show atmospheric carbon dioxide levels continue to rise but global temperatures are not following suit. The new data undercut assertions that atmospheric carbon dioxide is causing a global warming crisis.
NOAA data show atmospheric carbon dioxide levels rose 2.67 parts per million in 2012 to 395 ppm. The jump was the second-highest since 1959, when scientists began measuring atmospheric carbon dioxide levels.
Global temperatures are essentially the same today as they were in the mid-to-late 1990s, when atmospheric carbon dioxide levels were 360 ppm. Atmospheric carbon dioxide levels rose 10 percent between 1995 and 2012, yet global temperatures did not rise at all. Global warming activists are having a difficult time explaining the ongoing disconnect between atmospheric carbon dioxide levels and global temperatures.
This isn’t the first time in recent years that global temperatures have disobeyed the models presented by global warming activists. From the mid-1940s through the mid-1970s, global temperatures endured a 30-year decline even as atmospheric carbon dioxide levels rose nearly 10 percent. From 1900 through 1945, by contrast, global temperatures rose rapidly despite a lack of coal power plants, SUVs, and substantial carbon dioxide emissions.

MICHAEL MANN CAUGHT DOCTORING DATA AGAIN
Prominent global warming alarmist Michael Mann misrepresented data in a public presentation on global warming to give the false impression that global temperatures have been rising as fast as or faster than predicted by alarmist computer models. Scientist/mathematician Steve McIntyre showed Mann misleadingly presented land-only temperature readings (which are warmer than combined land/ocean temperature readings) and compared them to climate alarmist James Hansen’s land/ocean temperature predictions to support his false claim that real-world warming is outpacing computer models. Mann’s supporting temperature chart ends in 2005 even though post-2005 temperatures were available. The post-2005 data show real-world temperatures are substantially lower than Hansen’s predictions.

SCIENTISTS DEBUNK MUNICH RE’S SELF-SERVING DROUGHT CLAIMS
Insurer Munich Re issued a self-serving press release claiming droughts are becoming more frequent in recent decades. However, in November 2012 scientists reported in the peer-reviewed journal Nature there has been little change in global drought during the past 60 years. Climate scientist Roger Pielke Jr. dryly referred to Munich Re’s claims as “climate science by press release from Munich Re.”

SEA SURFACE TEMPERATURES STALLED DURING PAST DECADE
Global sea surface temperatures stalled during the past decade, with current temperatures remaining no higher than in 2003, NASA data confirm. The stalled sea surface temperatures refute assertions by global warming alarmists that global warming has stalled during the past decade because the ocean is absorbing more heat.

UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA TOUTS NEW ‘OPEN SCIENCE CENTER’
The University of Virginia, which spent more than a half-million dollars fighting Freedom of Information Act requests regarding research Michael Mann performed with the university, has announced a new “Open Science Center.” According to a UVa press release announcing the new center, “Knowledge accumulates when scientists conduct studies and share their findings with others. Sharing allows other scientists to identify flaws or to extend the findings to get more knowledge.”
